It’s National Signing Day!
Sure, there are two signing days now, and for most schools, the new December signing day is where most of the action happens. But for Maryland, which signed just six recruits last time out, today’s the big day. The Terps have nine unsigned verbal commits and have a chance at landing a couple more today.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Since Jan. 26, Maryland has added seven commits and lost three pledges, bringing its total to 15 for the class. But Mike Locksley’s staff definitely isn’t done. In this space, we’ll keep track of who signs and commits throughout the day. Each and every one of our National Signing Day stories will be linked below.
First update: Maryland has landed a commitment and signature from three-star (0.8500) JuCo guard Parris Heath, who was previously committed to Louisiana Tech. This move was expected, and Heath becomes the first interior lineman in the class.
SECOND UPDATE: THIS ONE WAS NOT EXPECTED. Maryland has now added Lance LeGendre, a four-star (0.9069) dual-threat quarterback from New Orleans. He chose the Terps over Florida State and is almost certainly the most important member of Maryland’s class, given the uncertainty under center.
Third update: Cortez Andrews, a three-star linebacker/safety from Tallahassee, officially committed to the Terps in a ceremony at his high school. He had been quietly listed as a Maryland commit on his 247Sports page since Jan. 27.
Fourth update: Four-star Virginia linebacker Eugene Asante committed to UNC in the evening, picking the Tar Heels over Virginia Tech and Maryland. The Terps entered late here, but were the dark horses this week.
This leaves Nick Cross, who’s still technically committed to Florida State but appears to be deciding between Penn State and Maryland. He postponed his announcement Wednesday and should have a decision soon.
