Junior college defensive tackle Ami Finau of Independence Community College announced his commitment to Maryland football Dec. 8 and officially signed with the Terps Wednesday.
“I wanna give a HUGE THANKS to Terps football for making College Park feel like home on my official visit,” Finau wrote in his original Twitter post. “With that being said, I am COMMITTED to the University of Maryland.”
After not having a rating when he committed, Finau is now a three-star (0.8495) prospect and the No. 12 JUCO defensive tackle in the country, per the 247Sports Composite.
Finau is a 6’2, 320-pound defensive tackle who could make a noticeable difference as a nose guard in defensive coordinator Jon Hoke’s 3-4 scheme. Serving as a roadblock for Independence up the middle, Finau had 19 solo tackles, 16 assists and 7.5 tackles for loss across 10 games during the 2019 season.
Independence CC is prominently known for being featured during seasons three and four of the Netflix series Last Chance U.
Finau has two years left to play, according to 247Sports, meaning he should be an immediate impact player for the Terps.
