For the third time ever, it’s Early National Signing Day.
Maryland football has had an up-and-down 2020 recruiting cycle. The Terps watched as the top in-state prospects committed elsewhere, and after a 3-9 season on the field, their class was ranked outside the nation’s top-50. But head coach Mike Locksley has made significant strides in recent weeks, and Maryland enters the early signing period with the country’s No. 36 class.
As of Wednesday morning, the Terps have 26 verbal commits, almost all of whom are expected to sign early (unlike last year, when Maryland only signed six recruits in December). They’re also in the running for a handful of other prospects who are announcing their decisions in the next few hours.
We’ll update this page as the additions roll in throughout the morning. We’ve also got an open thread here. Stay tuned.
First update: The Terps have their first new commit of the morning, as three-star Florida linebacker Frankie Burgess becomes the class’ 27th member.
Second update: Maryland was in the final two for four-star quarterback Jeff Sims, but he’s heading to Georgia Tech.
STUNNING THIRD UPDATE: Rakim Jarrett, a five-star wide receiver who’d been an LSU commit since April, flipped to Maryland seemingly out of nowhere. He’s the No. 20 player in the country.
Fourth update: Signing Day giveth and taketh away. Three-star defensive end Jerzhan Newton flips from Maryland to Illinois.
Another flip away: Three-star running back Kyjuan Herndon has signed with Colorado State, not Maryland. The Terps have backup plans, though, such as ...
Afternoon update: Isaiah Jacobs, another three-star running back is in. He’s the younger brother of Raiders running back Josh Jacobs, who played for Locksley at Alabama.
