Simmons is an unrated prospect, but at 6’2, 190 pounds, has the frame and size to evolve into a capable receiver at the next level. He plays at Avalon in Gaithersburg under head coach Tyree Spinner. Simmons played both receiver and cornerback in high school, and even filled in at quarterback when his team needed—an important quality for players headed to Maryland.
After ending up with five and four receivers in each of the last two classes, the position isn’t as much of a focus in 2019. Simmons is just the second commit at the position, joining high three-star Ahmarean Brown. With and already crowded receivers room, it would seem that this is it for receivers in the Class of 2019.
Simmons has dominated with athleticism in high school, but will have to refine his route running to beat out the receivers on scholarship ahead of him on the depth chart in College Park. In any case, he’ll be solid depth in the receivers room, as he holds offers from Boston College and Connecticut.
