Three-star offensive tackle Mason Lunsford announced his commitment to the University of Maryland on Friday, becoming the second new addition under new head coach Mike Locksley.

Lunsford is a product of Good Counsel in Olney, MD, and has the framework to be a special player. At 6’5, 305 pounds, Lunsford measures up to some of the biggest linemen on Maryland’s roster, and his versatility on the field as both a left and right tackle makes him a candidate to fit any needs for Locksley in 2019. With Derwin Gray and Damian Prince graduating, Lunsford could compete to fill those gaps at the Terps’ offensive tackle positions.
Lunsford had previous offers from Army, Virginia, UMass, and William & Mary. The latter two both came in early December after the two schools hired former Maryland assistants Walt Bell and Mike London, respectively, to head coaching positions.
With Lunsford’s commitment, Maryland has moved up to 77th in the 247Sports national Class of 2019 rankings but remains 14th in the Big Ten. He becomes the 10th member of Maryland’s class and second commit under Locksley.
