Jones is the No. 7 overall prospect in Virginia and the No. 59 wide receiver in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. He joins three-star receivers Dontay Demus and Brian Cobbs in Maryland’s class, which now ranks No. 19 in the country, per the 247Sports team rankings.
The 6’2, 180-pound receiver fits the profile that Maryland coaches have been looking for since their arrival in College Park roughly a year and a half ago.
Five of the six receivers who signed with the Terps in February are 6’0 or taller. There are only two other receivers on the roster over 6’0; Chris Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL and Michael Cornwell has appeared in two games in his two years in College Park without registering any targets.
With another recruit from Virginia Beach, 13 of Maryland’s 17 commits are from the DMV.
Jones is the first of two potential commits to pledge to the Terps today as three-star defensive end Tyler Baylor is scheduled to announce his commitment this evening. Maryland made his top 6 in early July.
