Hailing from Burtonsville, Maryland, Nchami was Maryland’s first official commitment for 2018. According to the 247Sports Composite, Nchami is the No. 15 player in the state of Maryland and the No. 42 outside linebacker in the class.
Nchami announced his decision way back on March 13, choosing Maryland over schools like Pittsburgh, Virginia and Syracuse and becoming the Terps’ first commitment for 2018. When he announced his decision, Nchami said he would be active in trying to convince other recruits to join him in College Park next fall.
With Chandler Burkett and Jalen Brooks graduating, Nchami will have a chance to compete for playing time right away. However, there will be some serious competition for those spots, especially at BUCK linebacker, where Jesse Aniebonam will likely return after missing most of the season with an ankle injury. Nchami’s versatility and ability to play both outside linebacker spots should suit him well when competing for playing time.
Despite Maryland recruiting many players from in state, Nchami is slated to be the only player from Burtonsville on the team in 2018. He spent his high school career at Paint Branch High School.
