Salahuddin is the No. 1 prospect in Washington, D.C., and the No. 4 all-purpose back in the country, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Since he reopened his recruitment, 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong has predicted that Salahuddin will land at Maryland.
If DJ Durkin and his staff are able to pull this rabbit out of their collective hat, it would feel eerily similar to Anthony McFarland’s recruitment last recruiting cycle; he too was a local four-star all-purpose back who seemed more interested in going elsewhere before choosing Maryland.
That being said, while things certainly look better for Maryland now than they did yesterday, the Terps will still have to fend off USC, Clemson and two other suitors for the 5’10, 193-pounder’s talents.
If distance turns out to be an important factor, things just might work out in Maryland’s favor. Another ace up Durkin’s sleeve is that two of Salahuddin’s teammates—four-star defensive back Noah Boykin and three-star defensive back Vincent Flythe—are Terps commits too. Given the timing, it seems likely that he’ll wait to sign until the traditional National Signing Day on Feb. 7, but a verbal commitment could come any time before then.
