Maryland football picked up a commitment from four-star athlete Markquese Bell during Sunday’s Under Armour All-America Game.
Bell becomes Maryland’s second-highest rated commit, behind only cornerback Deon Jones. Bell, the No. 7 athlete on the 247Sports Composite, is probably going to end up as a safety at Maryland. He gives the Terps another important piece in the secondary.
The New Jersey recruit’s commitment seemed imminent this week. He was reported to be deciding between Maryland and Ohio State, though Rutgers and Virginia Tech had been in the mix for a while. He didn’t tip his decision when speaking to SB Nation’s Bud Elliot this week, but experts forecasted him to the Terps anyway.
Bell is an early enrollee, which means he won’t count against the large number Maryland already has committed in the 2017 class. On a team that relied on a lot of freshman this season, Bell could get chances to play right away next year.
This is the second straight year Maryland has picked up a commitment at this showcase. Last season, the Terps got the good news from four-star guard Terrance Davis.
