Portland, Ore. – This week marked The Opening, the annual Nike-sponsored showcase for the best college football recruits in America. A handful of Maryland targets attended, along with five-star Terrapins defensive end commit Josh Kaindoh.
DeMatha Catholic athlete Anthony McFarland was among them. He’s among the Terps’ highest-priority recruits in the 2017 class, and he had a few really strong moments on the Nike campus. Here’s video of likely his best: a 70-yard touchdown grab from Michigan quarterback commit Dylan McCaffrey:

McFarland is rated on the 247Sports Composite as the No. 2 player in Maryland in the 2017 class, only behind DeMatha defensive end Chase Young. He was regarded generally as a running back earlier in the recruiting cycle, but McFarland has emerged as what recruiting types call an "ATH" – an athlete whose contributions come all over the field.
Here's some proof that McFarland, who's not any taller than 5'9, can chip in as a wide receiver.
Stick around these parts for more from The Opening over the next few days.
