Five-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh would be an absolutely giant score for Maryland football, and it appears the Terps have more than just a chance to get him. College Park is the favorite destination for one of the nation's top defensive line recruits, according to 247Sports' Crystal Ball rankings.
Kaindoh represents a perfect intersection of DJ Durkin's two main recruiting goals: keeping Maryland's best talent in Maryland, and reaching down to Florida. The 6'6, 256-pound defensive end grew up in Essex, Md., before going down south to play at football powerhouse IMG Academy.
He's the No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the class of 2017 and the No. 6 player in Florida, per the 247Sports Composite. DJ Durkin's staff has clearly made made major moves in Kaindoh's eyes, as he didn't even identify Durkin by name in a February interview.
"I'm trying to start my relationship with the dude from Maryland," he said. "They got their new staff and all that."
Four-star defensive tackle Cam Spence, Kaindoh's teammate at IMG, committed to Maryland over a week ago. Those two visited Maryland with three other IMG prospects back in March, and Spence said after announcing his commitment that he'll be trying to bring his IMG teammates with him to College Park.
If Kaindoh does indeed commit to Maryland, he would be one of the highest-rated recruits, if not the highest-rated recruit, to ever sign with the program.
