Editor’s note: This story was originally published on Dec. 17 after 247Sports’ Tom Loy reported that Brand had committed to Maryland, and updated after Rivals’ Adam Gorney reported Brand was not officially committed to the Terps. 247Sports has listed Brand as a Maryland commit since the initial report.

Three-star Detroit linebacker Bryce Brand has committed to Maryland, he announced on Twitter Saturday.

Brand is the nation’s No. 82 outside linebacker and the No. 109 player in Michigan, per the 247Sports composite. He committed to the Wildcats in June, but visited College Park during the first weekend of December.

Brand becomes the third linebacker in the Terps’ 2017 recruiting class, joining three-star prospect Ayinde Eley and junior college transfer Nick Underwood.

He becomes the 28th commit in the class. The Big Ten’s limit is 28, but that number will be lessened by early enrollees, which don’t count against the limit. Maryland will have a few of those. Just as Brand flipped in the Terps’ direction, DJ Durkin will likely see a few prospects leave his class. But with a class this big, he’ll be able to stomach any losses.

Brand’s brother Ryan will also join the team as a walk-on. Ryan is a former Air Force commit who participated in the Elite 11 quarterback competition during his recruitment as a member of the class of 2015.
