Maryland football seems to be making a last-minute push for 3-star LB Shannon Reid

This is the Maryland minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

In Wednesday’s SB Nation Crootletter, Bud Elliott tells the story of Shannon Reid, a three-star Florida linebacker. The nation’s No. 43 outside linebacker (per the 247Sports Composite) seems really impressed by Michigan, and Tennessee is in the mix.

And then, at the end of the story, Reid mentions that Maryland is in talks with him.

“Maryland has been talking to me again,” Reid told SB Nation. “They told me some of their coaches were on the Michigan coaching staff.”

Reid is an early enrollee, so he’ll probably commit somewhere soon. Maryland looks like a very unlikely destination, but he’s on DJ Durkin’s radar.

Maryland just landed an out-of-nowhere commitment from Kenny Bennett, a three-star corner from Philadelphia.

Shawne Merriman’s annual coat drive is happening Saturday, when Ohio State comes to College Park.

Greivis Vasquez was cut by the Brooklyn Nets yesterday. He’s been plagued by injuries for a while, and we hope he still has productive years ahead of him.

Profiles in Terpage continues with Jared Nickens and Kiara Leslie.

Prospective student-athletes in some sports can sign National Letters of Intent from Nov. 9-16. Maryland volleyball inked four of its six recruits in the 2017 class Wednesday. Steve Aird has assembled the program’s best recruiting class ever. Things are looking up.

Bruno Fernando also signed his NLI to play for Maryland basketball. (This was an admittedly tardy Maryland Minute. Yesterday was a rough day. We’re back on track.)

And in late-night garbage time, Jake Layman shined for Portland again.

He’s got 26 points in 24 minutes on 10-of-16 shooting in his career thus far.
