Maryland men’s basketball landed its third transfer commitment of the offseason with Utah guard Ian Martinez announcing his commitment on Instagram Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3 freshman averaged 5.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game during his collegiate debut this past season with the Utes. Martinez also recorded 14 steals and 17 blocks in his 25 appearances on the court. He had a season-high 18 points against the University of Southern California in which he played a season-high 29 minutes.

Martinez shot 49.5% from the field, 32.4% from deep and 83.9% from the charity stripe during the 2020-21 season.

Before college, Martinez was a four-star recruit coming out of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California. As a senior, he averaged 23.9 points, 7.8 boards, 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Martinez joins center Qudus Wahab and point guard Fatts Russell in pledging commitment to the Terps this offseason.

With junior guards Aaron Wiggins, Eric Ayala and senior Darryl Morsell testing the NBA waters along with freshman guard Aquan Smart entering the transfer portal, Martinez will provide some much-needed depth at the guard position.
