Former Maryland men’s basketball star Greivis Vásquez was named to the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
Vásquez attended Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland leading the Mustangs to a 43-5 record during his upperclassmen years. As a senior in 2006, Vásquez and teammate Kevin Durant served as a local power duo with both being top-43 recruits.
He then went on to play 122 games for the Terps, becoming the second all-time leading scorer in program history with 2,171 career points. As a senior, Vásquez won ACC player of the year and the Bob Cousy Award, given to the country’s best point guard.
Vásquez spent eight seasons in the NBA after being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 28th overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft. He has played for the Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets during his professional career.
Induction for this year’s group of inductees is set to take place in person on Sunday, Oct. 17, if health conditions permit.
