4-star PF Julian Reese commits to Maryland men’s basketball

The Terps lock up a key recruit in the 2021 cycle.

Maryland men’s basketball picked up a key pledge Sunday as local four-star power forward Julian Reese announced his decision to commit to the Terps.

“Happy Mother’s Day Ma, I’m going to college for free! Pack your stuff and move down College Park to see both of the stars you created,” Reese said in his Instagram post.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Reese is the No. 5 player in Maryland, No. 21 at the position and No. 103 overall prospect in the 2021 class.

Reese stands at 6’9, 205 pounds, providing a long frame for the Terps. He’s an excellent shot blocker who can serve as a key defensive piece, but also provide a smooth shot and strong body on offense.

He isn’t the first basketball player in his family to make the move to College Park, as his older sister, Angel Reese, was the No. 2 overall player and five-star recruit in the 2020 girl’s basketball class and signed with the Maryland women’s basketball program.

Reese is the first commitment in the 2021 class for Mark Turgeon and the men’s basketball program, entering them in the rankings at No. 27 in the nation.
