Three days after it was announced he was an AP Third Team All-American — the first time a Terp was named to the first, second or third team since Greivis Vasquez in 2010 — Maryland men’s basketball’s Jalen Smith garnered more All-American honors Tuesday.
Smith was named a Third Team All-American by both the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
He has now received Third Team All-American honors from AP, NABC, USBWA, CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and Sporting News.
The sophomore from Baltimore, who was a First Team All-Big Ten honoree, was the Terps’ second leading scorer (15.5 points per game) — behind only Anthony Cowan Jr. (16.3) — and leading rebounder (10.5 rebounds per game). He put up 21 double-doubles in 31 games, ranking third nationally.

Though the season was cut short, Smith could continue to add hardware. He is a top-five finalist for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award, which includes BYU’s Yoeli Childs, Dayton’s Obi Toppin, Gonzaga’s Killian Tillie and Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry.
Minnesota’s Daniel Oturu and Michigan State’s Xavier Tillman — other notable big men in the conference — have already declared for the 2020 NBA Draft — should it happen — but Smith has yet to announce his decision.
In other news
Jordan went to the film room to look back at Jalen Smith’s sophomore campaign.
