Maryland men’s basketball will hit the hardwood this afternoon to tip off its 102nd season in a matchup with the Old Dominion Monarchs at 2 p.m.
The Terrapins bring back seven players from their 2019-20 Big Ten championship-winning team, including Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year Aaron Wiggins, senior guard Darryl Morsell, junior guard Eric Ayala and sophomore forward Donta Scott.
7-foot-2 sophomore Chol Marial, sophomore guard Hakim Hart and senior guard Reese Mona, who was awarded a full scholarship this season after being a preferred walk-on his first three years, round out the group of returning players.
Maryland added to its front court with the additions of transfers Jairus Hamilton (Boston College) and Galin Smith (Alabama). Last season, Hamilton started 20 games and averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Eagles as a sophomore, while Smith appeared in 94 games over his three seasons in Tuscaloosa. Freshman Arnaud Revaz, a 6-foot-10 Switzerland native, is also in the front court but isn’t expected to see many minutes.
Freshmen Aquan Smart, Marcus Dockery, Aidan McCool and Connor Odom, along with junior transfer Jade Brahmbatt, join Wiggins, Ayala and company in the back court.
Malik Curry, Xavier Green and A.J. Oliver II are among those returning for Old Dominion, which finished 13-19 last season.
Head coach Mark Turgeon enters his 10th season at the helm of the Terps as they look to continue their streak of 43 consecutive home openers won.
