Maryland men’s basketball will head to Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday afternoon, looking to upset the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines just days after the Terps knocked off No. 12 Purdue at home. A Maryland win on Saturday would mark its first road win over a ranked team in 11 years.
The Terrapins displayed stifling second-half defense against Carsen Edwards and the rest of the Boilermakers in their comeback win at the Xfinity Center on Tuesday, and will look to ride the momentum into Saturday’s clash against a loaded Wolverines roster. Jalen Smith led the Terps with 16 points, and four other Terps reached double figures.
Michigan, who has looked dominant the entire season, suffered an upset loss to a 9-15 Penn State squad in Happy Valley in its last game. But the Wolverines still feature a strong starting lineup of Ignas Brazdeikis, Jon Teske, Zavier Simpson, Jordan Poole and Charles Matthews and have yet to lose on their home court this season.
Maryland is only one game behind league-leading Michigan in the Big Ten standings, which means a win would be monumental for the Terps. This is the first of two meetings between the teams, as the Wolverines will face Maryland in College Park on March 3.
The numbers
No. 24 Maryland: 19-6, 10-4 Big Ten
