After winning its first three games of the season, Maryland men's basketball moved up to No. 6 in the AP Top 25 released Monday.
Ranked No. 7 in the prior two polls, Mark Turgeon’s squad has picked up victories against Holy Cross, Rhode Island and Oakland — taking each contest by an average 24 points. And it certainly helped that then-No. 1 Kentucky was upset by Evansville, 67-64, on Nov. 12.
The most recent win over the Golden Grizzlies was a dominant 80-50 performance, where the whole bench was emptied. And the 18-point margin over the Rams gained some more value after the Atlantic-10 team coasted to an 93-79 victory over Alabama on Nov. 15.
Ahead of the Terps in this week’s poll are No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Louisville, No. 3 Michigan State, No. 4 Kansas and No. 5 North Carolina.
And while the Big Ten certainly doesn't seem as deep this season, there are now a trio of top-10 teams in the mix. In addition to the Spartans at No. 3, Ohio State moved into the top-10 this week at No. 10 (previously No. 16) after blowing out then-No. 10 Villanova 76-51 on Nov. 13.
The now-No. 6 Terps will face Fairfield on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
