Former Maryland basketball standout Jake Layman has had an outstanding first three games in the 2018 NBA Vegas Summer League, and it’s been incredibly satisfying to watch.
Through his first two games, Layman averaged 18.5 points, five rebounds and 1.5 assists and steals apiece per game. In Game 3, he added 15 more points and eight rebounds as the Trail Blazers head into tournament play 3-0.
In addition to his great numbers, Layman has also given us fun highlights.
Here’s one of him looking like old teammate Melo Trimble and taking it himself all the way to the hoop:

Here’s an edited highlight package of his 23-point performance on Sunday:

And of course, the best of them all, Layman’s monstrous putback dunk from the weekend:

Granted, this is “just” summer league, but these performances are impressive nonetheless. If Layman shows the same kind of improvement once the regular season starts, we may have to rebrand ourselves as the Layman Ledger or something like that.

The return of Jesse Aniebonam should bring a needed spark to the Terps’ defensive line.
Here’s where Maryland football fits into the greater Big Ten picture. Hint: it’s not projected to be great, but there’s a reason they play the games.
Juan Dixon is running away with the Best Shooting Guard in Maryland History poll. (Duh.)
We’ve got a pretty neat Fanpost up with video of Anthony Cowan, Darryl Morsell and Schnider Herard playing in the Kenner League.
