It looks like Maryland men’s basketball will be sweating until the end of the draft withdrawal period, as all three Terps who declared were invited to the NBA Draft Combine, according to the full participant list Yahoo released Friday.
While Justin Jackson signed with an agent, both Bruno Fernando and Kevin Huerter also received invites while testing the process. Jackson will have an uphill battle to prove he’s draftable, while Fernando and Huerter are looking for feedback, but could still possibly leave.
Jackson’s gone for good, and will have to use the combine to prove to NBA scouts that he’s still the same prospect he was viewed to be (in the 25-45 range) last offseason. After playing just 11 games before being shut down with a torn labrum, a large portion of his pre-draft time will likely be focused on proving his health.
Meanwhile, Fernando and Huerter are both expected to return unless they get first-round grades. In that regard, Fernando is more of a toss-up, depending on his combine showing, while Huerter is more likely to return for his junior season.
The combine will take place from May 16-20 in Chicago, and Fernando and Huerter will have a week after it ends to decide whether to keep their names in or return.
