After Maryland basketball had to hold off Delaware late in its season opener, the Terps make the short trip to Annapolis to face Navy Friday night in the fifth annual Veterans Classic.
The Terps stormed out to a 22-point lead early in the second half on Tuesday night before the Blue Hens clawed back and closed the gap to three with 1:27 left. Anthony Cowan Jr. then sank three free throws to seal the victory. Freshman Jalen Smith shined, recording a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Cowan and Bruno Fernando also added 15 points in the win.
Now, Maryland looks to finish much stronger against a mid-major in its only true road non-conference game. Navy opened its season on Tuesday with a 67-44 blowout loss to Old Dominion. Lamar Johnson has the full preview.
