Maryland men’s basketball will be hosting its fourth straight home game Friday night when Marshall comes to the Xfinity Center.
The Terps are coming off a 92-77 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday to improve to 5-0 on the season, and led by many as 30 points in the second half before cruising to victory. Maryland’s size was too much for the Mountaineers, as the Terps shot 62 percent from the field and outrebounded Mount St. Mary’s, 40-22.
Bruno Fernando led all scorers with 21 points and chipped in seven rebounds and four blocks. The sophomore has been unstoppable when on the floor, averaging 15.8 points and eight rebounds a game while shooting at a ridiculous 82.9 percent clip. Jalen Smith, Serrel Smith Jr., Anthony Cowan Jr. and Darryl Morsell also scored in double figures, with Smith Jr. pouring in a career-high 13 points off the bench.
The Thundering Herd are off to a 4-0 start, and strangely enough, have played Maryland’s last three opponents. Marshall beat Hofstra 76-72 on Nov. 11, Mount St. Mary’s 98-75 on Nov. 14 and North Carolina A&T 95-71 on Monday. The Thundering Herd return their top two scorers from a team that won the Conference USA Tournament and upset Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
The numbers
