The Maryland men’s and women's basketball teams kicked off the 2018-19 season with Maryland Madness on Friday. The freshman classes were introduced to Terp fans for the first time in person, highlighted by top recruits such as forward Jalen Smith and guard Aaron Wiggins, as well as forward Shakira Austin and guard Taylor Mikesell for the women's team.
The players put on quite the showing for fans, even performing their own dance routines. Players from both teams also paired up for a three-point shootout, which Wiggins and Mikesell won. Both team’s scrimmaged, and yes — there were a ton of highlight dunks in the men’s game. The Maryland cheer and dance teams also performed numbers for the crowd.
To cap off the night, players signed autographs for hundreds of eager fans. The women’s team has its first exhibition game this Sunday and the men’s debut is set for Tuesday.
