Maryland point guard Anthony Cowan Jr. was one of 10 players named to the All-Big Ten preseason basketball team, announced Thursday at Big Ten Basketball Media Day.
Here’s the full list:
Romeo Langford, Fr., G, Indiana
Juwan Morgan, Sr., F, Indiana
Anthony Cowan Jr., Jr., G, Maryland
Charles Matthews, Sr., G, Michigan
Nick Ward, Jr., F, Michigan State
Cassius Winston, Jr., G, Michigan State
Jordan Murphy, Sr., F, Minnesota
James Palmer Jr., Sr., F, Nebraska
CARSEN EDWARDS, Jr., G, Purdue
ETHAN HAPP, Sr., F, Wisconsin
Purdue’s Carsen Edwards and Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ, the final two names, are in all caps because they’re unanimous selections. Edwards, the only returning starter for Purdue, is the Big Ten’s preseason player of the year. These votes are from a panel of conference media members.
Cowan enters his junior year as the clear leader for the Terrapins. His classmates Justin Jackson and Kevin Huerter are both playing in the pros now, and he’ll once again serve as coach Mark Turgeon’s floor general. Maryland hasn’t announced a starting lineup yet, but it’ll probably look something like this:
Cowan
Eric Ayala
Darryl Morsell
Bruno Fernando
Jalen Smith
Preseason honors are just guesses while everyone waits for the season to get started. In other preseason estimates, this is the Big Ten preseason media poll, done by The Athletic:

Maryland had votes anywhere from No. 4 to No. 11, which is indicative of how little we know about a team that will incorporate multiple impact freshmen into the rotation once again.
Maryland basketball will take on George Mason in a secret scrimmage and Lynn University in a public exhibition game on Oct. 30 before starting regular-season play on Nov. 6 against Delaware.
