Northwestern thundered past Rutgers with a 31-0 run during the first half and cruised to an 83-61 win over the Scarlet Knights Thursday. With the victory, the Wildcats advance to play Maryland in the Big Ten quarterfinals.
The Terps played Northwestern once during the regular season, riding Melo Trimble to a double-digit win. Maryland hasn’t played since Saturday’s dramatic win over Michigan State, but the team figures to be ready to hop over to nearby Washington, D.C. to start its conference tournament run.
The Numbers
No. 3-seed Maryland: 24-7, 12-6
No. 6-seed Northwestern: 22-10, 11-7
Last time they played: Melo Trimble’s career-high 32 points vaulted Maryland to a 74-64 win on Feb. 15 in Evanston.
