2017 Bracketology: Maryland basketball is a 6-seed in ESPN & CBS’s latest projections

This is the Maryland minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Maryland basketball is a 6-seed in ESPN’s latest bracketology projection.

CBS’s Jerry Palm also has the Terps as a 6-seed, while SB Nation’s own Chris Dobbertean had them as a 5-seed last week.

This is a good deal better than the last time we checked up on them back in December, when Maryland was a 10-seed. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Terps in Buffalo playing the winner of a Clemson-Marquette play-in game, though opponents at this stage are awfully hard to predict.

Other Big Ten teams in Lunardi’s top 68 are Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota and Michigan.

The Terps have six more games to go in the regular season. After playing Northwestern and Wisconsin on the road this week, Maryland’s lone road game left is at Rutgers. A surprising sweep this week is just about the only thing Maryland can do before the Big Ten tournament to significantly improve its chances.
