College basketball rankings, Week 14: Maryland drops to No. 23 in AP top 25

The Terps’ loss to Penn State cost them, but not enough to keep them out of the top 25.

Maryland basketball dropped two places to No. 23 in the latest Associated Press top 25, out on Monday, following a 1-1 week that saw the Terps lose at Penn State and pick up a win at home against Ohio State.

This is Maryland’s fourth consecutive week in the top 25, making a return at No. 25 and moving as high as No. 17 before losing to Purdue. That defeat dropped the Terps to No. 21 last week, but losing to the Nittany Lions wasn’t enough to drop them out of the poll completely .

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Wisconsin fell to No. 11 after losing to Northwestern. Purdue stayed at No. 16.

KenPom’s advanced stats rankings have the Terps at No. 35, the highest they’ve been all season. Jeff Sagarin’s rankings have them at No. 34.

Maryland’s entering its toughest week of the season. First up is a test at Northwestern on Wednesday, and a trip to Wisconsin on Sunday comes after that.
