NCAA Tournament 2016: Updated South Region bracket, with Maryland set to play Kansas

Maryland is set to play the tournament's top team on Thursday.

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Maryland knocked off No. 13 seed Hawaii on Sunday, clinching its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2003. The Terps have had some luck in getting to face two lower seeded teams, but that luck ran dry when the Kansas Jayhawks handily took care of the Connecticut Huskies in the Round of 32. Now the preseason's No. 3 team gets its biggest test of the season against the No. 1 team in the tournament.

Here's an updated version of the South Region bracket:

Set to tip at approximately 9:40 p.m. ET on Thursday, Maryland will face a Jayhawks team that's only dropped four games this season, and is supported by four double-digit scorers. You can read more about them here.

The game will have a little more meaning as Mark Turgeon coaches against his former team, a school he both played as a point guard for and served as an assistant coach.

The Terrapins open as 7-point underdogs.
