Maryland basketball was a 5-seed in last season’s NCAA Tournament after staying inside the AP’s top 10 for most of the regular season. Expectations for this season’s team are much lower. Even a tournament bid is far from guaranteed. But as of now, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi expects the Terps to be in the field of 68.
He has Maryland as a 10-seed facing off against Florida State in the Indianapolis region in his latest projection. For now this shouldn’t be taken as fact, but it’ll be interesting nonetheless to see how the Terps move.
They were a 9-seed in Lundardi’s projections until their loss to Pitt on Nov. 29, and have held as a 10-seed since then.
Lundardi has Villanova, Kansas, Duke and Baylor as his 1-seeds. Other Big Ten projections include Indiana as a 2-seed, Purdue and Wisconsin as 5-seeds, Ohio State and Michigan as 7-seeds, Michigan State as an 8-seed and Minnesota as an 11-seed.
