The Terps have a chance to add to their resume against a solid team.

Maryland basketball narrowly escaped with another close win over the Richmond Spiders in the opening round of the Barclays Center Classic in Brooklyn on Friday night. The win wasn’t pretty, and it took overtime to beat another underwhelming opponent, but the Terps have a chance to add a solid win and win an early-season tournament title for the fourth straight year against Kansas State on Saturday.

The Wildcats handled Boston College, 72-54, in their first game, and are the first team the Terps will play that is ranked ahead of them on KenPom. Kansas State hasn’t played any tough opponents this early in the season, but has had no trouble getting by them, winning every game by double-digits.

They’re led by guard Barry Brown, who is averaging 14 points and three assists and forward Wesley Iwundu who is totaling 13 points on 42 percent three-point shooting and five rebounds per game. As a unit the Wildcats rank 28th in the nation from behind the arc at 41 percent and they score nearly a third of their points there. To win, Maryland will have to defend the perimeter.

The Numbers

Maryland: 6-0

Kansas State: 5-0

All-time series: Maryland leads, 1-0

Odds: Maryland is favored by 5.5.
