The Emerald Coast Classic takes place right after Thanksgiving at Northwest Florida State College. The 2016 edition of the tournament includes Iowa, Memphis, Providence, Virginia, St. Francis, Savannah State, UT Rio Grande Valley and Grambling State.
This season’s games take place on Nov. 25 and 26, the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Maryland participates in some early-season tournament each year. This season, the Terps are participating in the Barclays Center Classic with Richmond, Kansas State and Boston College. Maryland usually cleans up at these tournaments, having won the last three, but the Terps rarely face any premium competition. That seems to hold true for the teams Maryland would face in the 2017 Emerald Coast Classic, as TCU finished 136th in Ken Pomeroy’s rankings last season, St. Bonaventure 88th and New Mexico 115th. However, since there are eight teams participating in the tournament this year, more could potentially still be added for 2017.
