UMd Wrestling gets 6 into NCAAs

+

Six Terps qualified for the NCAA championships. Each of the 10 weight classes has 33 qualifiers. All Terps automatically qualified based on their placement at the ACC Championships. No Terp earned an at-large qualification by the NCCAA committee.

ESPN's Dinich interviews Maryland DC Todd Bradford. She also interviews Crowton; check that video here. First: whoa, no stache? Secondly: he's big on being "multiple." Edsall's said that a few times, too, as has Crowton. That appears to be the theme of this regime. That's good, but just one thing: that requires talent, and a lot of it. Probably more than Edsall is used to having. Recruiting will likely determine the success of the regime.

Sigh...NIT Bracketology Has Maryland on the Bubble?

It's Patrick Steven's, if that helps out any. If Maryland loses to N.C. State in the first round of the tournament, I suppose I could see this team missing the NIT, though it'd still be pretty shocking and a bit of a snub. A few of the teams above Maryland have middlin' resumes, even as it pertains to the NIT. Unless the (NIT) selection committee puts a huge emphasis on how a team finished the season, Maryland doesn't have much to worry about. Then again, I don't do this for a living. A win over N.C. State would guarantee a bid, of course.

Sorry for the lack of posting today - I've been in over my head with the real world. There's been next to no news and I haven't had the time to get down any analysis (time permitting, I'll get to some of that tomorrow). To make up for it, here's Maryland's kind of cute U-shaped ESPNU graphic, via 30fps.

"[Mychal Parker] was okay," Williams said. "He had played better in practice the last couple weeks. He has got a really good future, I think. Next year he’s going to be one of the key guys for us. He’s a very good athlete who knows the game."

Gary on Mychal Parker, via Terrapins Insider I've been saying that Parker is fine for awhile now, and I still think he'll be fine next year and in the future. Still, having seen him play and keeping his current PT in mind, I have some trouble assigning him "key guy" status for next year. A Landon Milbourne 8ppg season wouldn't hurt.

WBB: Alyssa Thomas Named ACC Rookie of the Year

+

Good news for Maryland's WBB, which seems to be back on the upswing. Thomas, a former HS All-American, is averaging about 16 points and 8 boards a game. She has quite the future. Also, if Terrell Stoglin started his run about a month earlier, it could be realistic for Maryland to have pulled a three-peat of ACC Rookie of the Year(s) in football, WBB, and MBB. Still, congrats to Thomas. We'll have some more WBB stuff now that it's nearing tournament time.
