Notre Dame Joining the ACC in Everything But Football, But Will Play 5 ACC Teams Each Season

290

Just when the Conference Expansion Mill had slowed down, ESPN is reporting that Notre Dame will be joining the ACC in all sports except football, but will play five ACC teams in football each season. So, they're pseudo joining in football, but maintaining their ability to schedule additional non-ACC opponents. It's interesting, because Notre Dame basically did this last year when they played Wake, Maryland, Boston College, Florida State and soon to be ACC member Pitt. Maybe a trial run? Notre Dame wants out of the Big East ASAP. Whether that happens after this season or not, you have to imagine that ND will be willing to cough up a big exit fee to leave in time for the 2013 season. But what does that mean for scheduling, basketball wise? Will the ACC try to add another school in all sports and then recruit a basketball only member, like Villanova? It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. For now, just drool at how awesome ACC basketball and lacrosse will be now. Insane.

Hills Named ACC Rookie of the Week

Perry Hills gets named the ACC rookie of the week for his performance against Temple in a 36-27 win the league announced Monday. That'll be a big confidence builder for the freshman I'd say. He has shown a lot of promise for being only a freshman.

Black Helmets

I probably just missed this earlier... but did anyone else notice the black helmets at the 5:10 mark?

Turgeon expects Dez Wells waiver process to take 4-5 weeks

He says he hasn't approached X for assistance, but Jeff Barker is reporting that he doesn't expect them to stand in his way. Andy Katz said the same this morning. X giving Wells their blessing might just be all the NCAA needs to feel comfortable giving him the waiver. Oh, please, please let this happen.

He'd be a big get. Nice to see that we're finally going after some shooters.

Looks like a Maryland GK recruit got an invitation to the USMNT U-18 training camp in the Netherlands.

"I credit Maryland, they really got his spirits up," the source said [of Dez Wells' visit to Maryland]. "It was a blessing to me to hear. It started out a rough week for him. He went through Kentucky, Memphis, but Maryland was the first time I heard the excitement back in his voice." "Just by his excitement," the source said. "If I had to bet the house on it, I would be betting in the blind, I would have to say, my gut, I know how he felt, sounds like possibly Maryland."

via Terrapins Insider on Dez Wells Judging by the comments, that source is either his pops or his coach. And after reading that, I can't imagine he really goes elsewhere. Also, liking this new Alex Prewitt kid at Terrapins Insider.
