MM 12.27: Maryland wrestling ranked No. 21 nationally

This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

In the midst of a three-week layoff between events, Maryland wrestling was ranked No. 21 in the nation by InterMat. The Terps were ranked No. 25 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Six Terps also earned individual InterMat rankings in their respective weight classes. Headlining the group is 197-pound Jaxon Smith, who is ranked No. 5 in his weight class. Kal Miller, who competes at 141 pounds, is ranked No. 12 in his division, meanwhile is brother, Ethen, is ranked No. 16 among 149-pound wrestlers. The other Maryland wrestlers ranked are Braxton Brown (No. 15, 133 pounds), Seth Nevills (No. 23, 285 pounds) and Michael North (No. 33, 157 pounds).

Maryland, which has won two of its three team duals, will be back in action on Jan. 5 at the Franklin and Marshall Lehman Open. It most recently competed against Morgan State and won comfortably, 35-6, on Dec. 10.
