NIL was coming down the road for years and still the NCAA was caught utterly flat-footed when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of NIL. When Everett and Co. insisted they didn't want NIL to be a "pay for play" recruiting tool, they had no rules in place to prevent it being exactly that. John Ruiz now fancies himself the de facto owner of Miami's basketball team. And he is!
