MM 8.17: Former Maryland men’s basketball center Bruno Fernando closes out 2021 NBA Summer League

Former Maryland men’s basketball star Bruno Fernando made an appearance in the 2021 NBA Summer League finals as the Sacramento Kings defeated his new team, the Boston Celtics, 100-67.

Fernando tallied nine points while shooting two-for-two from the field and collected two rebounds, one assist and two blocks in nearly 20 minutes on the court.

The center also saw action earlier this summer against the Denver Nuggets, the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers. In his 2021 Summer League debut against the Nuggets, Fernando had nine points and two boards. He continued to build his stats against the Magic in which he had 10 points and six boards. The Angolan native helped accelerate the Celtics into the finals by tallying nine points and 11 rebounds against the 76ers.

Fernando closed out the 2021 Summer League averaging 9.25 points, 5.25 boards and two assists per game.
