No. 21 Maryland men’s basketball senior guard Eric Ayala is one of 50 players on the Preseason John R. Wooden Award watch list, per release.

The award honors the most outstanding player for both men’s and women’s basketball.

Ayala averaged 15.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game last season and in the final four matchups of the season he averaged 19.0 points and 6.3 rebounds, which all came in the postseason. His junior campaign led to him earning All-Big Ten honorable mention.

This marks the third preseason honor Ayala has earned this offseason in addition to being on the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year watch list and an All-Big Ten preseason selection.

The Big Ten has the most selections of every conference with 10. The selections from the conference are Ayala, Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Andre Curbelo (Illinois), Hunter Dickinson (Michigan), Ron Harper Jr. (Rutgers), Caleb Houstan (Michigan), Jaden Ivey (Purdue), Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana), E.J. Liddell (Ohio State), Trevion Williams (Purdue).
