No. 7 Maryland men’s soccer defender Ryan Blumberg has been awarded the Big Ten Defender of the Week, the program announced on Tuesday.

Blumberg drew his first start against Indiana on Senior Day back on the last day of October and scored his first career goal at the college level. Maryland went on to win the game 2-0 in front of the College Park crowd.

He scored the header off a corner in the 49th minute of the match, and the goal snapped Indiana’s scoreless streak that stretched over 700 straight minutes. After Blumberg scored, he was visibly met with emotion as he was surrounded by his teammates.

Blumberg’s goal helped Maryland win the match to officially secure the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
