Maryland football defensive lineman Greg Rose nominated for 2021 Burlsworth Trophy

Maryland football defensive lineman Greg Rose was named as a nominee for the 2021 Burlsworth Trophy, the program announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The award is given to a college football player that has excelled on the field and started their career as a walk-on. Every nominee must have also started his first season in a Division I program without financial aid from the university’s athletics department, per the release.

Rose is officially one of 88 players that have been nominated for the trophy.

The senior has appeared in each of Maryland’s eight games this season has collected three sacks and 17 total tackles. Of those tackles, 12 of them were solo. Rose’s best performance came back against Illinois on Sept. 17, when he tallied two sacks late in the game to help the Terps to a hard-fought road win.

Rose’s third sack of the season came against Indiana this past Saturday in Maryland’s 38-35 win in College Park for the program’s fifth win of the season.
