The NBA preseason kicked off this week and former Maryland men’s basketball star Aaron Wiggins got off to a hot start in his preseason debut as a rookie.

Wiggins was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder this past June in the second round with the 55th overall pick. On Tuesday night, Wiggins had 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and 3-3 shooting from long range.

In July, Wiggins signed a two-way contract with the Thunder. At the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas in August, Wiggins had a terrific week. In five games, the 22-year-old averaged 11.2 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game on 43% shooting from the field.

Wiggins decided to forego his senior season at Maryland and enter the NBA draft last spring. He will now attempt to continue to impress the Thunder organization and earn some playing time on a young team in Oklahoma City.
