MM 8.5: Maryland Athletics continues to yield negative COVID-19 testing results

This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Nebraska v Maryland

Maryland Athletics released its latest COVID-19 testing results Tuesday, and the data continues to show a move in the right direction.

Every one of the 227 student-athletes and athletics staff that underwent screening from the University Health Center on July 27 tested negative.

Of the 964 total tests conducted since June, there have been 12 positive results — a rate of 1.2 percent. No individual has tested positive since the batch of testing conducted from July 14-15.

While Maryland continues to produce negative results, other schools around the Big Ten haven’t been as fortunate. Rutgers has had 28 players test positive over the past week, leading to a quarantine of the entire team. Michigan State had to do the same following an outbreak. Northwestern shut down all football workouts after a positive test this week, and Ohio State has done the same.
