New Opinion Thread for Bball Recruiting and Turgeon

As many of the regulars around here know, I don't typically go on rants or become super opinionated. I have written a couple of fanposts detailing my frustrations with Turgeon with regards to the 2019 and 2020 recruiting cycles. I used data and context to support that. With that said, I'm not a person who will bash Turgeon just to bash him; if you criticize everything then you're really not criticizing anything at all. With that said, I'm super happy to see Turgeon realize some of the mistakes he has made recently and addressing them directly.

2 points --> (1) Turgeon has made more offers in 2022 class than Ermann has ever recalled before. I'm happy that Turgeon has decided to cast a much wider net and starting to develop relationships with alternative options early. (2) and this also ties into the first point, but just read on 247 main page for Aminu Mohammed "One aspect that’s interesting is where things stand with Maryland. "They just signed a kid, Ike Cornish, out of the Baltimore area," Harmon said. "Coach Bino (Ranson) reached out last week, but I don’t hear from them as often as we used to, probably not as consistently as before." one thing I'm being very vocal about is the last couple year especially Turgeon has held onto 5 star dreams when most people clearly see the player won't come here. This, along with not casting a wider net has been the reason why we hadn't been competitive for top100 players like we were in 18' and prior and has forced us to scramble to find players either outside of our normal footprint, further down in the rankings than accustomed to, and/or late in the cycle. Turgeon stopped chasing around Aminu and locked down Cornish who is going to be a stud. This is EXACTLY the wheelhouse Turgeon was effective in when he landed players like Huerter, Wiggins, Bruno, Morsell, Ayala...the guys ranked between 50 and 100 that can play right away and also develop.

The 21' class should be great as they continue to add pieces and 22' should be good especially as we develop interest levels, plenty of time.

Still never ate that crow for Turgeon filling out 20' for next years roster, but hopefully still some time on that front.

Go Terps
