Former University of Maryland play Torrey Smith will return to his alma mater on Dec. 18th to give the commencement address at the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences.
Smith graduated from the University of Maryland in 2010, earning a degree in criminology and criminal justice. The wide receiver was drafted to the NFL in the second round by the team just north of College Park, the Baltimore Ravens.
Smith went on to have an accomplished eight year NFL career before hanging up his cleats for good this past September. In those eight years, Smith captured two Super Bowl championships with the Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles, playing a key role as a receiver throughout both runs.
As a Terp, Smith was a multiple time All-ACC selection at both wide receiver and kick returner. He owns the Maryland record in all-purpose yards with 5,264 and is third all-time in career receptions with 152.
Smith has moved back to the Baltimore area since his retirement, where he has the Torrey Smith Family Fund, dedicated to helping underprivileged communities.
As for what Smith is going to say, well, it doesn’t look like he has that figured out yet — although he does seem excited.
Your boy is doing a commencement speech. What should I talk about? I haven’t started writing it yet https://t.co/kezmaVjHjG
