Maryland men’s basketball sophomore forward Jalen Smith earned yet another honor before the season tips off, being named to the Sporting News Preseason All-American list on Thursday.
Smith earned third-team honors following a freshman season that saw him average 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks across 33 starts.
The sophomore was named to the Karl Malone Award watch list last week, listed on the Preseason All-Big Ten Team earlier this month and is marked as Andy Katz’s No. 18 player in the nation for this upcoming season.
Fans can get their first look at Smith and the rest of the 2019-20 Maryland squad as it hosts an open practice on Sunday at Xfinity Center, starting at 2 p.m.
