The attendance is just getting embarassing..

The attendance against Temple and Texas was awful.

And I fear it will be much worse tomorrow against Minnesota. I was able to purchase $4.00 tickets, and over 100 were available in my section (50 yard line upper deck seats). I easily could have purchased lower bowl ones for under $10, but I like the climb (yeah, I know, its odd).

Its a 12 PM start.

This is the Big Ten home opener, and I feel like that doesn't matter at all. What the hell has happened to our attendance? Not winning can't be the only answer. Why don't we ever do night games, or at least, 6 PM games, or even 3:30 ones? The students all leave in the 2nd quarter. The alumni leave in the 3rd. How this hasn't hurt us in recruiting is mind boggling.

Plenty of much worse off football programs have better attendance than us, or at least, not completely embarassing attendance.

I'm seriously starting to wonder about the long term health of the program with this being the case. Perhaps I lack perspective, but I started coming to games with my dad in the early 2000s when we had a packed house for every game and fights in the upper deck with West Virginia/Clemson/UVA fans and it was a great experience. I legitimately enjoyed Maryland games more than pro football or baseball games.

Was the fan base this apathetic in the late 90s? Or is it more that college football in general is seeing declining attendance and Maryland is being hit harder than most because of the extenuating factors (lack of winning, pro teams and attractions nearby, scandal in the program, etc.)?

And outside of winning, is there any way back?
