Sasho Cirovski’s new ice cream kicked off a sweet weekend for Maryland athletics

This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Nothing is sweeter than Maryland football upsetting Texas to open the 2017 season, but Sasho’s Crew Crunch is a close second.

Last week, the Maryland Dairy announced a new ice cream flavor in honor of men’s soccer head coach Sasho Cirovski, and the man himself stopped by for Friday’s unveiling.

It’s a simple recipe: Dulce de Leche ice cream (Cirovski’s favorite), combined with a chocolate swirl and bits of Nestle crunch throughout.

Cirovski moves into elite company, now the fourth head coach at the University of Maryland to have an ice cream named after them. Sasho’s Crew Crunch joins Terpin’ Durkin Crunch, Turge Turtle Crunch and Brenda’s Peanut Butter Frese.

As if getting your own ice cream flavor wasn’t enough, Maryland beat UCLA in overtime later that night to stay undefeated on the season.
