Profiles in Terpage is back for 2017. Last week, we focused on the linebackers; this week, we’re venturing into the secondary with Cornerbacks Week.

Alex Woods, DB, No. 23

Height: 6’2
Weight: 190 lbs
Year: Redshirt Junior
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
High School: Hillside

How he got to College Park

After spending the past two years playing at Lackawanna Community College, Woods was originally committed to West Virginia for the 2017 season. However, the three-star JuCo recruit changed his mind, committing to Maryland in December 2016.

Woods was the 13th-ranked JuCo recruit at his position and second in his state. The defensive back will play for Maryland after recording nine tackles and an interception for Lackawanna last year.

2017 prospectus

Woods enters a crowded Maryland position with a ton of competition early on. He has the talent to be force, but his lack of experience on the team means he is starting the season behind most other defensive backs. However, if Woods performs to his potential, Maryland could have a hidden gem waiting.

Dream season

Woods gets off to a fast start, earning some playing time early and gradually progressing throughout the season. He plays mainly as a depth corner, earns the trust of his coaching staff, and finishes strong to set himself up for a big 2018.
