More recent reports suggest that Anderson was placed on administrative leave Oct. 1, but still holds his position, at least for the time being.
Anderson was hired in September 2010 by then-acting president Nariman Farvardin and president designate Loh, after spending the previous six years in the same position at the United States Military Academy. Maryland athletics flourished under his leadership.
In addition to Maryland’s ACC-to-Big Ten transition, Anderson has overseen the hiring of basketball coach Mark Turgeon, football’s DJ Durkin and volleyball’s Steve Aird, among others. Maryland has won a conference-best 25 Big Ten titles since joining in 2014, as well as six national championships and 11 championship game appearances across sports during his tenure.
Under Anderson, Maryland has also posted its best APR scores and became one of the first universities to guarantee lifetime scholarships for athletes in all Division I sports. He was also instrumental in securing $45 million in fundraising for the next phase of the Cole Field House renovations.
Maryland also made strides in marketing and community inclusion with Anderson at the helm, winning awards for its marketing department in 2015 and earning a Fiesta Bowl for its community service efforts.
